The Health Institute of HES-SO Valais-Wallis and The Sense invite you to a conference presented by Professor Olivier Collignon (Visiting Professor at HES / Principal Investigator at The Sense) and Professor Olivier Lorentz (Ordinary Professor at HES and Executive Director of The Sense).

The program includes:

  • Presentation of the new interinstitutional research and innovation center, The Sense
  • Conference on the themes of “Brain plasticity and sensory deprivation
    • The study of the functional organization of brain regions deprived of their typical sensory inputs – for example, the occipital cortex in blind individuals or the temporal cortex in deaf individuals – sheds new light on the factors at play in the development of brain functions. For example, the observation that the temporal regions in deaf individuals or the occipital regions in blind individuals increase their responses to preserved sensory modalities demonstrates the role that experience plays in the sensory formation of brain regions. However, the fact that this transmodal plasticity follows principles of organization similar to those observed in the hearing or seeing brain highlights that intrinsic forces impact the development of the functional organization of the brain…
  • Networking

The conference can also be attended remotely via Teams (Click here to join the meeting).
