On September 20, 2024, the Swiss BioMotion Lab celebrated the inauguration of its new facilities, marking a significant advancement for The Sense Innovation and Research Center and the CHUV. Under the co-direction of Dr. Julien Favre and Prof. Brigitte Jolles-Haeberli, this cutting-edge lab aims to revolutionize scientific and clinical approaches to osteoarthritis, a condition affecting 90% of people over the age of 65.
A Leading Laboratory for Groundbreaking Research
With a solid decade of research, the Swiss BioMotion Lab now boasts advanced biomechanical equipment, including a tiltable treadmill paired with a giant immersive screen to recreate real walking conditions. This innovative infrastructure places the Swiss BioMotion Lab at the forefront of rehabilitation and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.
An Inaugural Program That Left a Mark
To celebrate the opening, the lab hosted an open house, followed by a public conference where Dr. Julien Favre, alongside experts in imaging, rheumatology, and biomechanics, presented current advances in osteoarthritis treatment.
Toward Personalized Osteoarthritis Medicine
With this new equipment, the Swiss BioMotion Lab will expand its studies to larger populations, gradually integrating biomechanics discoveries into clinical practice to advance personalized medicine. Dr. Julien Favre explains: “Our lab’s capabilities are unique, offering new perspectives in movement research and rehabilitation for joint-related conditions.”
